Rückruf und Insolvenz

Where can I find updates about the bankruptcy?

The trustees will provide regular updates on the progress of the bankruptcy through their bankruptcy reports in the Centraal Insolventieregister. These updates are provided approximately every three months.

What happened to Accell/Babboe?

On 5 August 2026, the Dutch Accell entities (Accell NL), which include the Babboe activities, applied for (provisional) suspension of payments. The suspension of payments was granted on the same day. On 11 August 2026, the suspension of payments was converted into a bankruptcy.

The administrators in Accell NL’s (provisional) suspension of payments proceedings, Mr E.J. Schuurs (Jones Day) and Mr T. Hekman (AKD), were appointed by the court as trustees in Accell NL’s bankruptcy.

The trustees appreciate that this is an unpleasant and uncertain situation for you. Below, the trustees seek to answer the frequently asked questions.

What does the bankruptcy mean?

Because Accell NL no longer had any prospect of being able to pay its debts, the court declared Accell NL bankrupt and appointed trustees.

The trustees’ task is to administer and liquidate Accell NL’s assets, with the aim of realizing the highest possible proceeds for the creditors as a whole. In doing so, the trustees are examining, among other things, which assets can be sold and how the value of the business can be preserved to the greatest extent possible.

In carrying out their duties, the trustees act in the interests of the creditors as a whole and, to the extent possible, take into account the interests of other affected parties, such as employees, customers and suppliers.

Why did this happen?

The management states that Accell NL went bankrupt because it had incurred losses over an extended period and it proved impossible to sell (parts of) Accell NL. In addition, according to management, it was not possible to reach an agreement with Accell NL’s principal financiers. As a result, it was no longer possible to continue the business.

What will happen now?
The trustees will assess Accell NL’s position and determine which next steps are appropriate. These may include continuing certain activities for a limited period or offering assets for sale, depending on what the trustees consider to be in the best ...
Can I still use my Babboe cargo bike?

The bankruptcy does not change the NVWA’s earlier advice regarding the use of your cargo bike. If the NVWA has designated your cargo bike as unsafe and it has not yet been inspected or repaired, we advise you to continue following the NVWA’s earlier advice. The trustees are not in a position to make statements about the safety of individual cargo bikes.

What does this mean for the Babboe recall?

As a result of the bankruptcy, ongoing inspections, repairs, upgrades or replacements under the recall will no longer be carried out. We advise you to retain your records and any previous correspondence with Babboe.

Babboe’s service appointments have been suspended for the time being. No new service appointments are currently being scheduled. Further communication on this will follow as soon as possible.

I still have a recall voucher. Can I still redeem it?

If, before the bankruptcy, you elected to receive a cash amount under the recall but have not yet received it, you may submit a claim for that amount to the trustees via ClaimsAgent.

What happens to my recent order from Babboe?

If you placed an order before the bankruptcy date (11 August), it will not be delivered. You may submit the resulting claim, together with the relevant supporting documents, via ClaimsAgent.

What should I do about my claim relating to my Babboe cargo bike?

You may have a claim against Accell Nederland B.V. if you have suffered loss in connection with your Babboe cargo bike. Claims must be submitted via the ClaimsAgent website. Your claim qualifies as an ordinary (unsecured) claim.

What happens to the warranty on my Babboe cargo bike?

Warranty claims, product liability claims and other claims for damages against Accell NL (Babboe) will not automatically be honoured as a result of the bankruptcy. If you have a (warranty) claim that has not yet been honoured by Accell NL, you may submit it as a claim in the bankruptcy to the trustees via the ClaimsAgent website.

What happens to my claim in the bankruptcy?

In a bankruptcy, claims are paid from the bankruptcy estate according to a statutory order of priority. In general, claims of ordinary (unsecured) creditors are paid only after the costs of the bankruptcy and any preferential creditors have been paid. At this stage, it is not yet clear whether claims relating to the Babboe cargo bikes can be satisfied in whole or in part. It will take some time before further clarity can be provided on this.

What happens in the event of a restart?

The trustees are exploring all options, including a possible (partial) sale of Accell NL’s activities, including Babboe. It is not currently known whether or when a restart will take place.

As part of a restart, a buyer will generally purchase assets (such as the brand name, inventory and machinery) from the bankruptcy estate. In principle, a buyer is not required to assume the bankrupt company’s existing debts or claims, unless specific arrangements are made to that effect.

If a buyer continues the Babboe activities, that buyer is responsible for the products it places on the market itself. For claims relating to cargo bikes sold by Accell NL before the bankruptcy, the bankruptcy estate remains the point of contact.

I am a business owner or lessee of Babboe cargo bikes. Does this FAQ also apply to me?

If you have a lease agreement for a Babboe cargo bike, your position depends on the party with which the lease agreement was entered into. If the agreement was entered into with Accell NL/Babboe, it is subject to bankruptcy law. If you are a business user (such as a parcel-delivery company, childcare provider or bicycle rental company) and this affects your business operations, you may submit any resulting loss as a claim in the manner described above.
